Sony may reduce the price of the PS3, part 2 and end.

Yesterday we told you about Sony’s “intention” to reduce the price of the PS3, and it seems that this news may have been misunderstood or at least some people doubted about the sincerity of our declaration (the mail we received).

So here it is, a screen copy of the Japanese/English Press Room mail … this is what we call “PR Statements” … and we give you the information “as it is” . Of course ONLY Sony knows but it is highly predictable that, sooner or later, the price will drop..

Rumors of a price drop started some time ago. (Since mid March, some analysts were suggesting that a price drop could possibly happen later in the year.)

Pres. Chubachi was quoted as saying “We are re-examining our [PS3] budgeting process in terms of pricing and volume. Sales assumptions change and the market is competitive. We are in the midst of revisiting our strategy for the PS3.” (Reported on April 19 by the Financial Times.)

But an emailed statement from Sony was quoted as saying “PS3 prices and shipment plans for the future should be determined by market trends and competition.” (Reported by Bloomberg on April 19.)

And seeming almost to contradict Pres. Chubachi’s statement, Sony spokesman Mami Imada was quoted as saying by telephone “Sony currently doesn’t have any specific plan to cut the PlayStation 3′s price.” (Reported by Bloomberg on April 19.)

Of course none of these statements really tell us whether PS3 prices may eventually be cut, or not.

The previous comment was written as 3 paragraphs (it was clearer that way) but the system removed the paragraph-breaks. Diamaou, is it possible to change the posting software to allow paragraph breaks (blank lines) to be preserved?
