Geanee’s Android 4.0 HDMI Stick, now available in Japan

Own a “Dumb” HD TV? Time to make it a little bit smarter with one of these HDMI Android Sticks! And today the new kid in town is Geanee’s ADH-40.

This tiny little HDMI Stick (85x16x25mm) announced at 9,980 Yen comes with Android 4.0, a 1GHz Cortex A5 CPU 512MB of RAM, 4GB of NAND memory, WiFi BGN, USB 2.0 and USB Host and is being fully compatible with MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 SP, MPEG-4 ASP, MPEG-4 AVC(H.264), WMV, MKV, MOV video files as well as MP3, AAC, WAV and WMA!

Not sure about you but these HDMI sticks are getting more and more tempting and it is definitively the cheapest and coolest solution yet to turn any regular HDTV of 27” HD Monitor into a real XMBC Like media Center!

  I think one of the source pages said this would be available August 10th.
  
  These android hdmi sticks look very appealing. There are a few caveats to be wary of, though. Most of them seem to have 512MB of RAM. 1GB would make upgrading to new versions of android much less of a problem. This brings up the next problem, which of these sticks will be upgradeable? The makers have no track record. So, get one that is popular internationally and comes rooted (“jailbroken” for iPhone fans), and you’ll have the best chance of the hacking community making the upgrade possible — and offering other enhancements.
  
  Also. Google Play. Some cheap android devices do not include access to the Google Play app store. You will want this for other media playing and streaming apps, etc.
  
  Bluetooth. Some don’t have bluetooth.
  
  And processor type. A5, A8, A10? Single-core or dual? It is hard to compare them all now, and I haven’t found a good site that is reviewing the devices and keeping current on what is available.
  
  Even the name is a problem. What are they to be called? Android hdmi sticks?
