[CEBIT 2012] Iceotope shows what ECO means, reinvents liquid cooling for servers

Full Time Free Cooling

From research to financial services to social networks, it’s impossible to imagine a world without computing. For those who own and operate systems at the heart of the IT revolution, the challenge is to ensure the delivery of sufficient energy, cooling and space to maintain the growth of these services.

The associated expenditure and operating costs are an ever increasing headache for the industry.

Use Liquid Cooling instead of Air

Liquid is vastly more capable of transferring heat. It conducts the heat far better and needs much less energy to be moved around. Using liquid allows us to take heat away from the electronics quickly, efficiently and effectively.

We use 3M™ Novec™ because of its excellent convection properties, inert nature and its ability to insulate electrically. This delivers unrivalled cooling efficiency.

The Iceotope Solution

The worlds first truly modular liquid cooled data center. We’ve combined servers and liquid cooling into a scalable 2N solution ready to slot into any standard data center globally. The Iceotope solution comprises a range of compute modules from Intel, AMD and other vendors inside a high density, low power and fully cooled cabinet.

Advanced science and engineering have been used to develop this solution.

Ultra-Convection with Rapid Heat Extraction

We use computational fluid dynamics to engineer modules filled with Novec to house the electronics, harnessing Novec’s convective properties to draw away the heat. We have developed a gravity fed low pressure water system that moves through a heat exchanger to carry away the heated water.

Our system is “hot-swap”, clean and dry, using our unique Iceotope valve technology.  Security and reliability are just two of the many additional benefits.

Save Money, Save Energy, Better For Computing, Better for the Environment

We have reduced cooling costs by 97% and compute power load by 20%. Iceotope removes the need for air handling and refrigeration. It is silent in operation and can be deployed in any environment with access to power and water.

Compute density is improved and operational costs are reduced dramatically. Finally, new facilities can be populated at a fraction of traditional capital expense.
