I don't think I'd like a bag of USB drives as backup. Discs are advantageous for backups because they are stackable and can be stored compactly. Current flash-based storage is also prone to corruption over time, hence the need for occasional "bit scrubbing" to make sure the correct bits are written back to the flash memory. When these BDXL blanks have fallen to the point of being a few cents per GB, I think they would be the preferred choice for backups.

at about $100 - $150 per disc, this tech is as useless as the inventor of BD itself (sony baloney). i never expected BD to survive this long, considering its makers history of failures. you can get 128gb usb 3.0 flash drives for around the same price, which are lighter, more secure and less breakable, and you save money by not having to buy a burner! and its rewritable!
