While this display had greater color saturation (greater, not necessarily better; it wasn't calibrated, after all), and superior contrast to the Sony LCD next to it, it also had a fascinating, albeit small amount of dither going on around the edges of objects. Not immediately noticeable from an average viewing distance, but once I noticed it, I couldn't stop seeing it. No doubt buggy software failing to handle addressing and finite power management for sub-pixel LEDs. Will be very promising if they can get that---and the insanely high cost---resolved. All that aside, I'm not at all sure this method can ever be more cost-effective than OLED, which is seeing significant (to manufacturers, that is) year-to-year drops in production costs.

There are actually over 6 million LEDs in the panel: 1920 x 1080 x 3 for each RGB sub-pixel per pixel which comes out to 6,220,800 LEDs.

Bump, this should be corrected ASAP. This isn't a OLED TV like the ones that LG and Samsung showed. Just to clarify on the terminology, this is a proper LED TV as maxime has described unlike the current ones on the market which has an LCD panel on the top.
