Is the lens separation distance as much of an issue as we are making it? I always thought the lenses should be eye-distance apart from each other. My 3DS, however, has its lenses very close together and does a nice job of 3D pictures (from its crappy 0.3 megapixel imagers) -- talking about the 3D effect, not the image quality.

The lens separation is way too small; it should be about 70-75mm. Furthermore this camara has no auto-steroscopic display so you cannot view the pictures in 3D.
People, buy the very good, much more sophisticated (and cheaper, I think) FUJI W3 3D camera instead! It has optimal lens separation a super auto-steroscopic display, an all the features that the panasonic has, such as taking 2 pictures simultaneously with different fucus, and taking 3D pictures with time delay or left-right separately after each other (for distant subjects and with a chosen or fixed time interval for example from an airplane or car or train. Fantastic pictures on your 3DTV, Computer, Beamer or just on stereo-prints!

The Lens separation, at 36mm is more than adequate for exceptional 3D on a 3DTV. It avoids the problems of too great disparity between near and far objects that make for uncomfortable 3D viewing. The Sony Bloggie 3D has only 20mm separation but its 3D looks awesome on a 50" Plasma TV., and the depth looks totally realistic.
The price of this new camera/ camcorder looks to be really good value.

The lens seperation looks to small for normal stereo views but maybe could be used for close ups with supplementary lens.
The flash between the lensed idea was used on the Fuji W1 and W3 and causes ugly shadows on opposite sides of the subject for each view. The flash should be placed to one side and there is plent of space to do it because the lense sre closer together.
