Here you are another wonder from Toyota’s Safety Day with this very interesting ECG set of sensors that has been integrated into a steering wheel.
The concept here is simple how to prevent accident and save live before something wrong happen by monitoring people’s heart beat.
Unfortunately car accidents due to person struck by heart-attacks are still too common nowadays, and fixing this issue is not something easy. This is why Toyota has been working on a new prototype of Steering wheel capable to monitor at all time your heart beat and take control over the car if necessary.
If the system start detecting abnormal heart rhythms it will automatically slow down the car for you and start alerting the authorities about your condition, giving you enough time to park you car and brace for the worse hopping that rescue is on the way.
Being a prototype this system was working perfectly well but comes however with a rather annoying limitation that will take time to solve. Indeed as for today this system do not fully cover the steering wheel but rather two small areas of it and you need to have both hands precisely place on the steering wheel in order to make it work.
Still this concept is pretty impressive and we just hope it will come alive soon, but I can’t stop wondering what will happen if by chance come a cross a gorgeous lady having a sunbath on the sidewalk, will this “boost” your heart rhythm will also trigger this system?
