Heated Thanko USB cushions

After the slippers, the gloves and the socks, the cushions for office chairs are heated and connected via USB!

Before you ask me, why so many heated gadgets in Japan?
Several reasons:
1) Japanese people are thin and have less fat than me to help them fight the winter season.
2) Thermal insulation in homes or buildings is totally inexistent. Central heating doesn’t exist, house walls are as thick as 2 sheets of paper, and when you mention glass wool, people try to picture sheep with glass wool…

Sometimes during winter, it’s warmer in the streets than in people’s homes. I know some people that are paying outrageous rents and still can feel the wind passing thru… That’s quite incredible in a country where temperatures reach 40°C in the summer and -5°C in the winter (in Tokyo), or 3m of snow in some places… How is it possible in the 21st century that we use a heating system that is a hundred years old??

On number 2 – Walls are normally thinner there for one simple reason: Earthquakes.
Houses are made with lighter materials to avoid people getting caved in or… squished because of thick concrete walls and stuff.

Didn’t have the oportunity to stay at a regular japanese house, but there were no problems in the hotel, heat-wise. To tell the truth, it was a bit too hot, which was kinda complicated because of the thermal shock when we got out.

Anyways, I also learned that there are several old houses and constructions here and there, even in Tokyo. Might be a problem. But commercial buildings and stores generally have some strong heating… spent 20 days in Japan (end of winter) and felt cold only while walking outside. And that coming from someone that lives in a tropical, hot country…
